Marshfield lost a five-game set to visiting Marist Catholic 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12) Tuesday night in Coos Bay in a SkyEm League match to keep the Spartans on pace with Cottage Grove. The Lions also picked up a road win, 3-1 at Junction City, while Elmira kept visiting Siuslaw winless 3-1 in the only home league win. The first round of league play ends Thursday with Elmira (1-3, 6-6) at Marshfield (2-2, 12-3), the two unbeatens, Cottage Grove (4-0, 11-2) & Marist Catholic (4-0, 4-6) have a showdown in Eugene, and Junction City (1-3) visits Siuslaw (0-4, 4-6) in Florence.
