North Bend’s Sara Slade was seventh overall at the Umpqua Cross Country Opener at Stewart Park in Roseburg Friday. The junior was timed in 22:27.34 on the 5,000 meter course. Elizabeth Eckman of Roseburg won in 19:35.97. Bandon’s Aunika Miller was second in 21:05.83. Freshman Emma Slade was 14th (24:29.20), Abby Woodruff 16th (24:55.71), Clara Messner 18th (25:49.91) and Maryam Qadir 19th (26:27.02). Roseburg won the meet with 25-points, Bandon 2nd with 58, followed by North Bend 67 and St. Mary’s 84. Bandon took the boy’s meet with 25-points, Roseburg 2,d 34, North Bend 3rd 80, followed by St. Mary’s 108, Glide 128 and Douglas 175. Roseburg’s Preston Smith won the 5K race in 16:52.01. Ansen Converse of Bandon was third (17:12.58). The Tigers had five runners in the Top 10. North Bend’s Top 5 was led by junior Aidin Wilson 10th overall in 18:58.20. Also for the Bulldogs, Tiago Schrader 12th (19:15.91), Gavin Schmidt 13th (19:29.27), Benjamin Swank 26th (20:51.74), & Evan Hernandez 32nd (21:29.72). North Bend is next scheduled to run Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Marist Catholic Invite, Eugene. Marshfield is scheduled to open the season Sept. 11 at the Ash Ck. Festival, Monmouth.
