Known as “Pre’s Rock,” the site in Eugene where legendary Coos Bay distance runner Steve Prefontaine lost his life in a car accident in 1975, has been upgraded with pedestrian safety improvements. The $65,000 project includes new railing intended on keeping a better separation between visitors and vehicles on the tight Skyline Blvd. curve. Also new double yellow lines have been added on the roadway and yellow paint on the curb. There is also an expanded sidewalk and viewing area of the rock memorial. The project, funded by the City of Eugene, began last November.
