Preventing Sediment from Entering Streams from Roads, July 26

OR Dept. of Forestry release – SALEM, Ore. – The Adaptive Management Program Committee (AMPC) invites public comment during their August 28 meeting, where they will hone research questions to assess prevention of road sediment from entering streams. The AMPC, tasked with ensuring forest practices protect natural resources through a transparent and science-based process, will focus on the research topic: “Starting Point and Ongoing Tracking for Preventing Water Flow from Roads.” The committee will develop these research questions based on the guidance provided by the PFA report. The meeting will include references to established research, providing a solid scientific foundation for the discourse. The committee aims to use initial measurements and tracking data of changes over time to set regional objectives that align with these observations. Following the development of the research questions, the Independent Research and Science Team (IRST) will implement the research agenda set by the AMPC. After reviewing the findings, the AMPC will present recommendations to the Board of Forestry ensuring a comprehensive and transparent process. Written comments can be submitted via email at: adaptive.managementprogram@odf.oregon.gov. Verbal comments will be the first agenda item at the Zoom meeting August 28, 2023. The agenda and Zoom link will be provided closer to the meeting day and will be available at https://www.oregon.gov/odf/board/Pages/ampc.aspx.
