Isthmus Slough Bridge, CCSO release – On 10-7-19 at 10:04 AM, Coos County Dispatch received a call from an off duty Bandon Police Officer. He had witnessed a female sitting on the railing of the bridge, and when he returned to check on her, noted she had jumped into the slough. One lane was blocked before the female was recovered from the water. The female was noted to be conscious and breathing, and appeared unharmed by the fall as she clung to a pylon. Sheriff’s Office and North Bend Fire immediately responded with marine assets. Several Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Coos Bay Officers, Millington Fire and Oregon State Police troopers arrived on scene. North Bend Fire Department was able to recover the female at about 10:33 AM, and transported her to the Eastside boat ramp. The female was checked by Bay Cities’ Ambulance and found to be physically uninjured. When questioned about her motive, she stated “it was better than being on fire”. The female was transported to Bay Area Hospital. No criminal charges will be pursued.
