In honor of the 33rd Annual Public Service Recognition Week, Oregon Department of Human Services Self-Sufficiency Programs (SSP) employees participated in a video series, sharing their inspirational stories on why they work in public service. The videos are featured on SSP’s Facebook page each day during Public Service Recognition Week, May 6-12, 2018. Celebrated since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is a nationwide public education campaign honoring the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees. Each year the President and Congress designate the first full week of May as PSRW and activities are held nationwide in celebration of public employees who put service above self. “SSP serves 1.2 million Oregonians, and the team of employees, who help our customers address the barriers that will help lead them out of poverty, are here because they truly care about helping others,” said SSP Director Kim Fredlund. “The staff are here to serve others, and their stories demonstrate their passion to help Oregonians most vulnerable populations.” Thirty SSP employees appear in this series from cities including Medford, Bend and Ontario.
