Purple Sailors hit North Oregon Coast Beaches, April 14

They have a variety of names, “Purple Sailors” or “By-The-Wind Sailors” are the two mostly mentioned along the West Coast, but their real name is Valella Valella and when they come ashore, they stir up reactions. Beaches on the North Oregon Coast are inundated with the “Blue Sea Creatures” as westerly winds blew them off the Pacific Ocean and on to sandy beaches where they died and left behind a definite marine-type smell. They’ve been reported at Rockaway Beach, Manzanita, Seaside and Astoria.
