On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at about 9:15 pm, Douglas County Emergency Communications was advised that agencies from Coos County were in pursuit of a stolen vehicle on Highway 42, which was entering Douglas County. Agencies from Roseburg Police Department, Winston Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist. The vehicle was successfully stopped after an officer flattened the tires of the suspect vehicle using spike strips. The vehicle came to a stop on Highway 42 near Towhee Lane in Tenmile. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and were not immediately located. An AlertSense (emergency mass notificiation service) message was sent to residents in the area to alert them of the circumstances. Several tips were called in from residents in the area. At approximately 2:00 am, a resident in the area called the Sheriff’s Office reporting a female believed to be associated with the pursuit sitting on her front porch. The female was located and taken into custody. She was identified as 25 year old Latiesha Metcalfe of Medford, OR. Metcalf was cited for local charges of Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. Coquille Police took custody of Metcalfe and transported her to Coos County Jail on their charges. At approximately 7:15 am, a resident in the Tenmile area called in reporting a suspicious male. Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to the area, but were unable to locate the male. At approximately 8:30 am, a Sheriff’s Office Detective located the male suspect standing in a driveway in the 8000-block of Highway 42. With the assistance of Winston Police Department and the Oregon State Police, the male was taken into custody. After providing false information as to his identity, the suspect was identified as Kaleb Herzog, age 25 of Coos Bay. Herzog was transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was lodged on local charges of False Information to Police, Unlawful Possession of Heroin, Carry Concealed Weapon x2, Felon in Possession of Restricted Weapon x2.
