Quakes, Oct. 2

The southern junction where two fault lines begin that run parallel with the Oregon Coast was rocked Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 with three significant earthquakes. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 4.7-magnitude quake was recorded southwest of Ferndale, CA, followed by a 4.2-magnitude west to southwest of Ferndale, CA, and then a little further west a 3.7-magnitude west of Petrolia, CA, all near Cape Mendocino in Northern California. On Sunday, Oct. 1, a 4.7-magnitude quake was recorded off the South Oregon Coast. The USGS reported the quake on the outer fault line, west of Coos Bay. Two more quakes were also recorded Sunday at the southern junction, A 4.1-magnitude South of Petrolia, CA, and a 3.3-magnitude, also south of Petrolia, CA.
