Raising a Student-Athlete in Today’s Youth Sport Climate, April 4

Free lecture and discussion at Southwestern. News release SWOCC.  Dr. Mike Herbert, coach, educator and current Athletic Director at Southwestern will present “Raising a Student-Athlete in Today’s Youth Sport Climate” on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 6 pm and again on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 1 pm. The lecture will take place in Eden Hall on the Coos campus of Southwestern, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. This free lecture and discussion will cover past, current and future issues facing youth sports in our community and nationwide. Dr. Herbert will address the difficulties parents of student-athletes face, and how we can best support the next generation of student-athletes. In the past 20 years, adults have become more involved in youth sports, but dropout rates and childhood obesity have increased. We hope all parents and coaches of any sport join us to learn why youth drop out of sports, and gain a better understanding of how you can support your student-athlete as they learn to succeed and fail in the sports arena.
