Randall David Tipton Exhibition at Coos Art Museum, July 8

New Landscapes, a solo exhibition of paintings by Lake Oswego, Oregon artist Randall David Tipton will be featured at Coos Art Museum. The exhibition, which will be held in the Museum’s Mabel Hansen Gallery, runs from July 9 through October 1, 2016. Tipton is known for his landscape paintings which are abstract, intuitive and uniquely colorful. In a recent interview he spoke about the quality of authenticity in his paintings. “This is that non-verbal thing I mentioned. It’s a feeling of discovery and “homecoming” at the same time. I know I was meant to be a landscape painter because of the way I respond emotionally to the landscape. This is beyond a love of nature. It has a quality of “rightness” and deep engagement. When the painting process is successful, there is something similar that happens. Almost like finding a new view of myself. Does that make sense? By not stopping too soon, pursuing this feeling, trying all manner of techniques, something original occurs.” Tipton, a largely self-taught artist, received formal training at the Mendocino Art Center in Mendocino, California and through a special Master Class with Richard Diebenkorn at the Santa Fe Institute of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been featured in frequent solo exhibitions at the White Bird Gallery in Cannon Beach, Oregon and has shown in Expressions West exhibitions at Coos Art Museum and in 2005 received a purchase award.
