Razor clamming expanded to Siuslaw River on the Oregon Coast, June 14

The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) announce that the reopening of razor clamming has been extended from Heceta Head, north of Florence, to the north jetty of the Siuslaw River as domoic acid levels have dropped below the alert level. This means the harvesting of razor clams is now open from the Columbia River to the north jetty of Siuslaw River at Florence. Razor clamming remains closed south of the Siuslaw River to the California border. ODA will continue to test for shellfish toxins weekly, as tides permit. Reopening of an area requires two consecutive tests in the safe range. For more information, call ODA’s shellfish safety information hotline at (800) 448-2474 or visit the ODA shellfish closures web page at <http://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/FoodSafety/Shellfish/Pages/ShellfishClosures.aspx>.
