Red Cross disaster action team volunteers responded to a home fire early Thursday morning, May 28, near Charleston. Mutual Aid was requested at 2:53 a.m. The single-family fire in the 97000 block of Hollywood Lane affected two adults, an infant and three dogs. One dog did not survive. Red Cross provided food, clothing, infant supplies and formula, crib and baby linens, bedding, comfort kits, and disaster health and mental health services. The Red Cross advocates emergency preparedness and offers the installation of free smoke alarms in communities across Oregon and southwest Washington.
