The Southwest Oregon Regional Forest Practice Committee will submit its formal recommendations on streamside protection for the Siskiyou region to the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) during a public conference call on Friday, Feb. 24 from 9 to 10 a.m. Members of the public who wish to participate may do so at either of these two locations: Douglas Forest Protective Association, 1758 NE Airport Way, Roseburg, OR 97470. Sun Pass Conference Room, Oregon Department of Forestry, Building D, 2600 State Street, Salem, OR 97310. ODF had previously asked the nine-member Committee last year to prepare its priorities as the agency looks at potential updates to streamside protection rules to benefit fish and wildlife and water quality in the Siskiyou region. ODF is gathering the information from regional committees to help the Oregon Board of Forestry set priorities around stream protection in Oregon. Public meetings – The public is welcome to attend the meeting. The meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities. Requests for an interpreter for the hearing impaired or other accommodations for persons with disabilities should be made at least 48 hours before the meeting. For more information about attending the meeting, please contact Susan Dominique at 503-945-7502. About the Southwest Oregon Regional Forest Practice Committee – Regional Forest Practice committees are panels of citizens — mandated under Oregon law — that advise the Board of Forestry on current forestry issues and forest management approaches. Three Regional Forest Practice committees serve the Northwest, Southwest and Eastern regions of the state. They were created by the Oregon Forest Practices Act in 1971. Under Oregon law, a majority of Regional Forest Practice committee members are private forest landowners and logging or forest operations companies.
