Removal of 23rd COVID Death, March 22

CHW release – After reviewing the circumstances in the case of our 23rd reported COVID death, Coos Health & Wellness is removing that death from our local numbers. The Oregon Health Authority will still be reporting that death, but we, in good conscience, cannot consider this as a COVID related death. Coos Health & Wellness strives to report the most accurate information possible to our community and we feel that the inclusion of this death would be incorrect. While this individual may have had a positive COVID 19 test, their cause of death was not related to that diagnosis. For those of you who have been following the daily numbers on our various social media platforms, there will be an asterisk by the number of deaths to signify that our numbers do not correlate with the number Oregon Health Authority is reporting. While we appreciate the work that Oregon Health Authority is doing, and will continue to work with them to get you the most up-to-date information, we cannot give numbers that we know do not fit. It is our duty to keep the citizens of Coos County informed and we will continue to do so.
