Residential Attic Fire, March 1

News release from CBFD. On Sunday, February 28th at 11:40 a.m., the Coos Bay Fire Department responded to a reported attic fire at 469 8th Avenue located in the Eastside neighborhood of Coos Bay. The first arriving firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the roof and gable vents of the home. The homeowner, Mr. Virgil Greenlee, was home at the time of the fire. He began to smell smoke in the residence, and he discovered a fire around his chimney pipe. Mr. Greenlee attempted to extinguish the fire with his garden hose but was not successful. He then called 9-1-1. The fire started in the attic of the structure. The home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage, but no injuries were reported. An investigation into the cause of the fire is being conducted by the Coos Bay Fire Department.
