ROSEBURG, Ore. – On Thursday, December 19, 2019, at 2:30 am, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1000-block of Shadow Ranch Lane in Roseburg for a reported suspicious male outside of the home. Once deputies arrived, they located a male later identified as 40 year-old Matthew Ewing Kelm of Wilbur (Oregon) looking through the trunk of a vehicle parked at the residence. Kelm initially told the deputy it was his home, but when the homeowner came outside, Kelm pushed the resident down and attempted to flee. After a short foot pursuit, Kelm was apprehended. He attempted to resist being arrested, but was ultimately taken into custody. The homeowner was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Kelm was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on the following charges: • Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle; • Theft II; • Resisting Arrest; • Assault 4th Degree; • Criminal Mischief II; • Arrest Warrant.
