Rollover on I-5, June 1

Saturday morning’s investigation into a rollover accident in Marion County of a commercial bus is continuing. According to Trooper Kevin Ely, on May 30, 2015 at about 07:39AM, a 2011 Freightliner Bus registered to HUT Transport was traveling southbound neat milepost 269, when the operator, Jack C HEISLER, 72, of Stayton, dropped a water bottle. Passengers on the bus stated they observed HEISLER attempt to retrieve it off the floor when he lost control and crossed the center median, broke through the cable barrier and crossed the northbound lanes. The bus left the roadway and rolled onto it’s driver side. HEISLER and both passengers were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. At the time of the crash, Michael C GRIFFIN, 62, of Eugene was operating a 1995 Saturn Sedan northbound. When the bus crashed through the barrier, portions of it struck GRIFFIN’s vehicle. He was uninjured. At least two lanes of I-5 northbound were closed for hours while recovery efforts on the bus were attempted.
