Roseburg’s Community Cancer Center received the funds from the Sheriff’s Office’s, Dec. 20

“No-Shave November” event. The funds, which were collected and managed by the Douglas County Law Enforcement Association (DCLEA), totaled $3,500.00. This was the first year the Sheriff’s Office has formally participated in the campaign and it was very successful. “It was important to our agency that the funds stay in our local community. The Community Cancer Center was a logical recipient of the donation and we are very happy with the final results”, said Sheriff Hanlin. The purpose of “No-Shave November” was simple; bring awareness and discussion to men’s health issues by temporarily relaxing the grooming standards of the Sheriff’s Office and allowing deputies to grow beards for the month of November after donating a minimum of $50.00. In additions to the funds raised by Sheriff’s Office employees, donations from members of the Winston Police Department, Douglas County Board of Commissioners and community were also received by DCLEA. “The Douglas County Law Enforcement Association was eager to participate in this charitable effort as we all have been impacted by cancer in some way. We have had two active duty deputies who have passed away from cancer and so this is especially important to us”, said DCLEA President Deputy Brian Melvin. The check was presented Wednesday morning to the Community Cancer Center’s Executive Director, Tammy Turner, at the Douglas County Commissioner’s Meeting.
