SWOCC release – As a member of our community who cares about families and raising healthy and successful children, we invite you to be our guest for a talk and discussion by Ross A. Thompson, Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Davis. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, 10 am to 12 pm. Space is limited so please R.S.V.P. to 541-888-1588 or charity.grover@socc.edu. Babies and toddlers do not think like adults do. Understanding how to think like a baby can help us make sense of their reactions and feelings. Guided by a developmental psychologist, who is President of the Board of Directors of ZERO TO THREE, the first part of this presentation builds a bridge between knowledge of the brain’s explosive development during the first two years, and our everyday experience of babies and toddlers. In the second part, we’ll explore the practical implications for those who work with children from birth to age five and their families. Ross A. Thompson is Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Davis, where he directs the Social and Emotional Development Lab. Thompson studies the development of positive social motivation in young children, including prosocial behavior, conscience (moral) development, and emotion understanding. He also writes on the applications of developmental science to practice and policy, including children in poverty, early childhood mental health, and early education. Sponsored by Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Family Center.
