SALEM – Rumble strip installation begins this week throughout the Willamette Valley and northwest Oregon. The project will cover 280 miles on 19 roads. Most work will be done at night. Work begins this week on four highways. Construction hours are generally scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights, but will vary by location and weather. Travelers should expect lane closures, noise and delays. Flaggers control two-way traffic. This week work begins on Monday night, July 6. The first four sections of highway are: OR 51 Independence Highway, milepost 1.8 – 4.39; OR 211 Woodburn – Estacada Highway, milepost 7.88 – 11; OR 214/219 Hillsboro – Silverton Highway, milepost 28.45 – 45.35; OR 233 Kings Valley Highway, milepost 0 – 30.67 Crews will move from highway to highway as each section is completed. Rumble strips are grooves in the pavement that create vibration and sound to alert drivers when they are leaving their lane. This safety measure can reduce crashes caused by lane departures by 20%, making them a successful and low-cost option. Check TripCheck.com for current construction locations and hours. For a list of all locations included and more information, see the website at: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/projects/pages/project-details.aspx?project=19692 Where traffic is routed through or around a work zone, pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will also be provided routes through or around the work zone.
