The annual “Run to the Rogue” memorial event for the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians was held on the Central and South Oregon Coasts this past weekend, Sept. 12th & 13th. The run commemorates the forced march of Native Americans by the U. S. Federal Government from Gold Beach to Siletz in the late 1800s. Tribal members carried a ceremonial artifact along the nearly 250—mile trek from the Siletz Reservation, which is located northeast of Newport in Lincoln Co., and then south on Hwy. 101 to the Rogue River at Gold Beach.
