Sometimes it’s the annual Red Tide along the Oregon Coast, or the Purple Sailors, or even the beaching of a whale that draws attention to our Coast Line and adds a mystery to the daily pounding of the salt water waves on our the shores. Chalk up another one. On Sunday, Aug. 15, thousands of Sand Dollars started washing up on the North Coast near Tillamook Head. Why? No one knows for sure, but they do know that Sand Dollars die within minutes of being out of the ocean. Some good-natured beachcombers tried to help by throwing them back into the ocean, but the waves south of Seaside only brought them back to the sandy beach.
