Sanitary Sewer Overflow, Feb. 9

News release from the City of Coos Bay. During a 24-hour period on February 6th, approximately 3 inches of rain fell on Coos Bay. Due to the intensity of the rain event, the City of Coos Bay’s sanitary sewer lines became hydraulically overloaded causing 2,870 gallons of sewage to overflow from a manhole near S. Broadway and Golden Avenue. It then flowed into a stormwater line that drains to the bay. Once the rains slowed, the overflow stopped. The Department of Environmental Quality and Oregon Emergency Response System (OERS) was notified of the incident. Any questions can be directed to the City of Coos Bay Public Works Department. The telephone number for the department is (541) 269-1181 ext. 2247.
