Sanitary Sewer Overflow, Jan. 20

City of Coos Bay release – Tuesday morning the city was notified of liquid coming out of a crack in the sidewalk and the edge of a road along Thompson Avenue just west of the intersection at N. 15th Street. The city’s contract operator investigated and determined it was sanitary sewer. City staff mobilized a contractor and they are currently onsite and will determine the location of the failed pipe and make the repair. It is believed to be a failed pressure line. The pumps that feed the force main have been turned off until the location of the failure can be found and repaired. Most likely this repair will go into the night. In order to repair the pipe, the city has closed lanes and flaggers are on site directing traffic. Delays are anticipated. It was reported that approximate 2,187 gallons of sewer spilled into Pony Creek. DEQ and the Oregon Emergency Response System (OERS) were notified of the incident. Any questions can be directed to the City of Coos Bay Public Works Department at 541-269-8918.
