News release from the City of Coos Bay. The City of Coos Bay has learned that the outfall that serves Wastewater Treatment Plant Number 2 has deteriorated. The deterioration was observed at the end of the outfall approximately 860 feet from the shore (see map below). At this time, the City has no evidence that this is adversely impacting the bay’s health, and there have been no reports from the Coos County Health Department. Furthermore, regulatory agencies have not required the City to close the beach. The City is working with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and other regulatory agencies to coordinate a repair.
