The Coast Guard opened its seasonal search and rescue detachment (SARDET) on the Rogue River May 25, 2019. As a part of the SARDET, Coast Guard Station Chetco River will provide a 29-foot response boat and will continue their presence as often as practicable with respect to maritime vessel traffic and available water depth. The Coast Guard provides the SARDET on the Rogue River in Gold Beach, Oregon each year to ensure the safety of the maritime community along the Southern Oregon Coast during periods of increased recreational vessel activity. The SARDET covers an area of responsibility from Cape Sebastian to Humbug Mountain. Normally, Station Chetco River provides a 47-foot motor life boat as a part of the SARDET, but this year Rogue River experienced significant shoaling due to winter weather so mariners will experience shallower water depths than normal. As a result, the Coast Guard will not be able to provide the 47-foot motor life boat until the channel is dredged. The channel is scheduled to be dredged by the Army Corps of Engineers in July 2019. The SARDET will have limited maritime response capability until the dredging is completed. The Coast Guard Sector North Bend Command Center will transmit regularly scheduled broadcast notices to mariners informing the boating public in the immediate area of the Rogue River of any limited Coast Guard response capability.
