Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) responded to multiple fires Saturday afternoon, August 13. The first report occurred at around 2:00 p.m. on Burnt Mountain Tie Road above Tioga Creek. Two separate fires were discovered about 400 feet apart. The first fire was about 1/2 acre and the second fire was about 2/3 of an acre. Both fires were human caused, the specific cause of the Tioga Creek fire is still under investigation. Firefighters worked to catch the fires and crews will be busy throughout today mopping up the fires. The Miller Ranch Road fire started around 2:30 p.m. nine miles up the Rogue River. The fire moved fast in grass and brush threatening several structures. The fire burned 7.7 acres and was the result of a vehicle fire. Firefighting resources from CFPA, US Forest Service, and the local RFD’s worked to contain the fire. Fire danger is getting high this time of year, remember that fire prevention is everybody’s responsibility.
