SCINT Funding Challenged, June 19

On Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team (SCINT) learned that the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission (CJC) convened on January 20th, 2012 and voted to discontinue further grant funding for multijurisdictional drug task forces statewide.  The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) has provided funds for multijurisdictional drug task forces for over two decades nationwide. The CJC for the State of Oregon oversees the distribution of these JAG funds.  Thirteen multijurisdictional drug task forces in the State of Oregon are affected by this decision.  All of SCINT’s funding is derived from grants. SCINT provides services to Coos, Curry and Western Douglas County.  This will reduce SCINT’s anticipated yearly budget by $79,932.00 after September 30, 2012. This decision will have a direct impact on the services provided by SCINT.  SCINT encourages the public to report narcotics activity on the web by going to www.scint.us and “Report a Dealer”.  Submitted by: Det. Sgt. Toby Floyd, Director SCINT.
