Work on the new $39-million dollar Scottsburg Bridge on Hwy. 38 east of Reedsport is set to begin Feb. 21st according to officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The current two-lane steel erect bridge was completed in 1929 but is now considered too narrow for today’s traffic. Work on the replacement bridge will actually begin this Summer. It is expected to be completed by the Spring of 2022. The new bridge will be nearly 1,300-feet longer and taller than the current Umpqua River overpass. The new bridge will also have 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot shoulders.
