Specialty docks paid for by volunteers and donations on Newport’s Historic Waterfront to showcase Sea Lions were torn away from their location during a recent Pacific Winter Storm that tore through Yaquina Bay on the Central Oregon Coast. The Newport Sea Lion Docks Foundation paid $30,000 to install the docks last Summer, but the storm reportedly broke the dock’s hinges setting three sections free. Two were recovered nearby and a third was located three-miles up the river. The Port of Newport gathered the damaged docks and is in the process of assessing them for repairs. Without a sleeping berth dock, the sea lions will just move to their next favorable spot either on the rocks of the nearby breakwater or to another dock.
