A rescued-endangered sea turtle is receiving life-threatening care at the Oregon Coast Aquarium on the Central Oregon Coast after it was discovered on Thanksgiving Day on a Southwest Washington Beach. A Beaverton couple came upon the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle on Benson Beach at Cape Disappointment State Park across the Columbia River from Astoria. They contacted the Marine Mammal Stranding Network and arrangements were quickly made to transport the sick female to the aquarium at Newport. The OCA is only one of two facilities in the Pacific Northwest authorized by the Federal Government to conduct rehabilitation care on sick sea turtles. The Olive Ridley Sea Turtle most likely was pulled out of its normal warm waters off Southern California by a strong northerly current. Its temperature was recorded at 59-degrees, normal is 75.
