News release CCSO. LOCATION: Cape Arago Hwy; INFO TO BE RELEASED: On August 13, 2017 from 0900 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. the Coos County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Three Flags seat belt enforcement program in support of the Charleston Crab Feed located in Charleston Oregon. Deputies made 15 traffic stops which included the following citations and arrests. 7 Citations for Driving While Suspended, 7 Citations for Driving Uninsured, 7 Citations for Failing to Use a Seat Belt, 1 Citation for illegal backing, 1 Citation for Failing to maintain a single lane of travel and 1 Citation for Failing to Obey a Traffic Control Device. Two arrests were also made during the deployment. One arrest of an individual located in a vehicle for outstanding felony warrants. One arrest of a subject who had been driving a vehicle and fled on foot upon the vehicle being stopped. This subject was arrested on several outstanding felony warrants, and charged additionally with Attempting to Elude on Foot, Unlawful Possession of Meth and cited for DWS Violation and Driving Uninsured. The arrests were from Case Number S2017-10637 This was a traffic stop where the driver fled on foot from a vehicle being stopped by a deputy on Libby Road near milepost 4. Malio Favalora, 55 years old, of Coos Bay, fled from his vehicle into the woods nearby. Deputies chased him and captured him a short distance away. He was charged with Attempting to Elude on Foot, and Possession of a controlled substance (suspected Methamphetamine) as well as an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Coos Bay PD. Favalora was transported to the Coos County Jail where he is currently being held on the above charges. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to use their seat belts and child restraints when operating a motor vehicle. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in a Oregon wide seatbelt safety blitz August 17 through September 3, 20127. The Sheriff’s Office will be focusing on child safety restraints, seatbelt usage and overall traffic violations throughout the county.
