An Oregon State Police SWAT team used water cannons to break windows in a second floor motel room in Lincoln City back in March of 2013 when law enforcement officers were attempting to arrest a Washington State man for killing his parents. Twenty-eight year old Michael “Chad” Boysen was taken into custody and eventually sentenced to life in prison, but the motel room at the WestShore Oceanfront Hotel was destroyed during his arrest. Owner Kent Landers of Vancouver, WA, filed a tort claim seeking nearly $25,000 in damage from the Oregon State Police. In addition to the water cannons, police used explosives to partially blow the door open and then tear gas. Landers said the room was “demolished,” and that he is just trying to get paid back for the damages incurred by the SWAT team. However, state officials claim he filed the suit in court one day after the deadline. Landers disagrees. A hearing to consider the motion to dismiss his claim has been set for June 3, 2015 in Marion Co. Circuit Court, Salem.
