Sentenced for Murdering his Grandmother, March 8

Lane Co. SO release – Monday, March 7, 2022, 47 year old James Lynn Holt was sentenced for the 2019 murder of his then 87 year old grandmother, Sally Baldwin. On April 5th, 2019, Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Sally Baldwin’s residence in Creswell after receiving the report of an injured person. Responders arrived to find that she had been severely beaten and was unable to provide much of a statement as to what happened. Responders found a door to her house had been kicked in and some of her personal belongings were scattered about. Sally was transported to an area hospital, but passed away in the days to come as a direct result of her injuries obtained in the assault. Sally’s grandson, James Lynn Holt, was identified early in the investigation as a suspect. Numerous items of evidence were able to link him to the crime scene and murder. He was located on April 9th, 2019, and taken into custody. After Sally passed away, he was formally charged with murder on May 6th, 2019. Holt has remained in custody awaiting trial ever since. On 12/20/21 Holt plead guilty to Murder in the First Degree. Today he was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
