Sewer overflow at Pump Station No. 3 in North Bend, Jan. 10

City of North Bend release, Jan. 9, 2023 – Sewer maintenance crews responded on January 2, 2023, to reports of sewage flowing into Pony Creek Slough at about 11:00 am at Pump Station No. 3. The North Bend Waste Water Department is engaged in an ongoing project at that location, which involves a temporary pump system to bypass the waste water around the station. However, the discharge line disconnected itself from the temporary pump system during a run cycle, resulting in an estimated 30,000 gallons of raw sewerage spewing onto the ground and into Pony Creek Slough. Maintenance crews reconnected the discharge line to stop the sewage release and posted warning signs in the area. The City also removed as much wastewater debris as possible, flushed hard surfaces with water, and covered affected areas with hydrated lime. The City of North Bend has taken all necessary steps to prevent a reoccurrence of this situation and has proactively reported the incident to regulatory agencies.
