The area around John Topits Park in the Empire District of Coos Bay was locked down Wednesday, April 15, following a report of a shooting. The incident unfolded about noon-time at the park just off Ackerman St. when police received a report that a man had been shot. Coos Bay Police, North Bend Police, Oregon State Police, Coquille Tribal Police and Confederated Tribal Police all converged on the park just west of the campus at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Those involved were contacted and the injured individual was transported to Bay Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one was arrested and the shooting remains under investigation.
