On Tuesday, October 09, 2018, at about 0100 hours, the 911 center received a call reporting a shooting had just occurred at the Valley View Mobile Home Park, located at 200 Emil’s Way, Roseburg, Oregon. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Roseburg and Winston Police Departments responded to the scene. Initial reports indicated that an argument was occurring in one of the trailers that involved 30 year old Ricky Gibbons, of Roseburg. While this was going on, 34 year old Nicholas McElmurry, also of Roseburg, arrived at the trailer and became involved in the argument. Nicholas McElmurry then shot Ricky Gibbons, and fled the scene. Ricky Gibbons was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, where he was initially treated before being transported to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield. His current condition is unknown, but his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. Two K-9 Units from the Roseburg Police Department responded to the scene and assisted other responders with a search for McElmurry. At about 0200 hours, a K-9 Officer announced the dog would be sent under a trailer and the dog began barking. McElmurry, who was hiding in a nearby shed, yelled out and surrendered. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Douglas County Jail where he was initially charged with Assault I. More charges are expected. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 541-440-4471.
