Shooting in North Bend, Nov. 14

A female is deceased, another one has multiple gunshot wounds and a male is in custody following a shooting on Chester Street in North Bend Tuesday evening, Nov. 13.  According to a news release from Coos Co. District Attorney R. Paul Frasier, police were summoned to a residence at 3516 Chester Street about 10:14 p.m. following “multiple 911 phone calls reporting screaming and gunshots being fired in the vicinity of Exchange Street and its intersection with Chester Street.”  Police found 53-year old Leslie E. Mason deceased, and her daughter, 28-year old Lindsay Pease suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Three uninjured minor children were also located in the residence. “Witnesses indicated that they saw the estranged husband of Ms. Mason, Glen Frank Mason, 54 years of age, leaving the area of the residence.  When the witnesses attempted to stop Mr. Mason, Mr. Mason allegedly fired a firearm in thier direction.  ONe neighbor returned fire with a personal handgun.”  Police went to Mason’s residence on Ridge Road, North Bend.  The Coos County Emergency Response Team also responded.  After negotiating over the telephone for 30-minutes, Mason surrendered to police without incident. He has been charged with one count of Murder, three counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Assault in the First Degree. Lindsay Pease was taken to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay initially, and then transferred to OHSU in Portland where Frasier says her condition is “fairly stable.”  NBPD is the lead investigative authority.
