News release from the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team (SCINT) September 23, 2015, Willy Joe Jenkins was sentenced to 60 months in prison after pleading guilty to Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Resisting arrest. In December of 2014, Coos County deputies received information Willy Joe Jenkins was in the Charleston area of Coos County Oregon and was reportedly carrying a firearm. Multiple deputies responded to the Seaport RV Park. Upon arrival Jenkins was not at his residence. At that time and location, deputies heard a vehicle start when they arrived. Deputies, who were on foot, saw and heard a vehicle accelerate quickly in their direction. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle. Jenkins was recognized despite wearing a ball cap and a neon wig. Jenkins was held at gun point and given verbal commands to exit the vehicle by multiple deputies. Jenkins did not comply with the orders and his torso could be seen moving around and the deputies could not see what he was doing. Jenkins was told he had outstanding warrant. Jenkins again reached for his waist area. Multiple deputies ordered
Jenkins to keep his hands were they could be observed. Jenkins continued to move his hands towards his waist area. Deputy Jonathan Boswell opened the door of the truck and took physical control over Jenkins left and right arms. Jenkins was allowed to attempt to remove the seatbelt with his right hand and his right hand was released by the deputy. Jenkins unlocked his seatbelt and as opposed to returning his hand to the deputy, Jenkins again reached for his waist area. Jenkins was pulled from the vehicle. Jenkins stated he possessed a pistol and attempted to pull away from two deputies. A pistol was located concealed in Jenkins’ waistband. Ammunition was found throughout the vehicle. Deputies also located over 12 grams of methamphetamine and a digital scale. A search warrant was obtained. During the search of the truck and bags within a recipe for methamphetamine was located. A subsequent search of the truck revealed a non-operable short-barreled shotgun concealed in the door panel. The defendant was charged with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine with a Firearm Minimum, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine with a Firearm Minimum, Unlawful Possession of a Short-Barreled Shotgun, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Resisting arrest. The defendant originally set the matter for trial then failed to appear for trial. A warrant was issued for the defendant’s arrest and the defendant was again apprehended by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office. The defendant pleaded guilty to Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine with a Firearm Minimum and pursuant to Oregon Sentencing Guidelines was sentenced to 60 months in prison, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine with a Firearm Minimum with to serve 24 months in prison, Felon in Possession of a Firearm 12 months in prison, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 90 days in jail, and Resisting Arrest 90 days in jail to all run concurrent. Following his release from prison the defendant will be on post prison supervision for 36 months.
