Coos Co. Snow Alert
The weather service has predicted between 1-3 inches of snow below 1000 ft, and 3-6 inches of snow above 1000 ft! Our coastal areas rarely deal with any accumulation of snow, so please prepare now for challenging conditions for travel. Change appointments, and avoid any unneeded trips tomorrow, especially in the morning hours. We have several higher elevation areas – Tugman hill near Lakeside, Beaver Hill between Coos Bay and Bandon, Hungry Mountain east of Coquille are just some of the areas that may likely fall within the snow zones. If you live in an area where the weather may make travel away from home challenging, take some time this afternoon to stock up on needed medications, easily prepared foods, water, and firewood or other heating fuel. The weight of snow often pulls down utility lines, so it might also be wise to prepare for the possibility of powers outages.
Schools close for a day
Both the North Bend and Coos Bay School Districts opted to close for one day on Friday, Dec. 6, due to the forecast of snow and freezing temperatures. School officials plan to resume classes on Monday, December 9th
