A “significant solar flare” that erupted from the Sun earlier this year, will just miss Earth as early as Friday, Sept. 12th, but an official with the Space Weather Prediction Center says it is only looking “potentially strong” at most as a Solar Storm. Most of the energetic particles from the Solar Flare will continue into outer space well above the Earth, according to Tom Berger, director of the Center in Boulder, CO. However, he adds, as it passes, the Solar Storm could cause changes in our planet’s magnetic field, fluctuations in power system grids, but nothing is expected to go off line, and create slight disturbances in satellite and radio transmissions.
