According to figures recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rate in Coos County rose from 19.8% in 2011 to 20.6% in 2012. In Curry Co., the poverty rate estimate was uncharnged from 2011 and the estimated 17.9%. One out of four children younger than 18 in Curry Co. live in households below the poverty line. In Coos County, the rate was even higher at 30.6%. Both county rates are higher than the U.S. and Oregon (23%) levels.
