Coos County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 7.0 percent in August from a revised 6.9 percent in July. The rate is 0.6 percentage point below the August 2015 rate (7.6%). Oregon’s seasonally adjusted August unemployment rate was 5.4 percent; the national rate was 4.9 percent. The county’s payroll employment rose over the month by 70 jobs. Coos County added 470 jobs over the year ending in August for a 2.1 percent annual growth rate. Curry County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 7.5 percent in August from a revised 7.3 percent in July. The rate is 1.1 percentage points below the August 2015 rate (8.6%). The county’s payroll employment rose over the month by 60 jobs. Curry County added 360 jobs over the year ending in August for a 5.6 percent annual growth rate.
