Coos County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly in August to 5.4 percent from a revised 5.1 percent in July. The rate is below the August 2016 rate (6.6%). Oregon’s seasonally adjusted August unemployment rate was 4.1 percent; the national rate was 4.4 percent. Coos County gained 390 jobs over the year ending in August for a 1.8 percent annual growth rate. Curry County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly in August to 5.9 percent from a revised 5.6 percent in July. The rate is below the August 2016 rate (6.7%). Curry County gained 40 jobs over the year ending in August for a 0.6 percent annual growth rate.
