Reports of a rare wolverine spotting along the Oregon Coast in three communities leads officials with the Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife to speculate that it is the same wolverine and it is headed south likely seeking new territory. Wolverines are very rare in Oregon and listed as “threatened.” Three reports came in from three “N” towns along the Coast, Nehalem, Netarts and Newport. Could North Bend be next? The ODFW is asking anyone who spots a wolverine to not approach it, but if you can take a photo. Young wolverines will reportedly travel long distances to establish new territory, however, the Oregon Coast is not an ideal habitat. Wolverines were reported to be eradicated from Oregon in 1936, but there have been scattered sightings since the 1960s.
