Southwestern announces changes in coaching positions, May 6

SWOCC release – Coos Bay, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College announced Monday that Coach Trevor Hoppe will become the college’s Head Coach for the men’s and women’s cross country program, and Coach Riley Grandinetti will replace Coach Hoppe on the sidelines as the new Head Coach of the men’s basketball team. Coach Trevor Hoppe has led the men’s basketball program at Southwestern since 2005. This fall, Coach Hoppe will change roles having more wins in program history than any other coach, and the longest coaching tenure in program history with 15 seasons. He coached four teams to the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championship Tournament with the 2007-08 team reaching the final four, and one team to a NWAC South Region Co-Championship in 2013-14. He was voted South Region Co-Coach of the year in 2013-14. Coach Hoppe has a passion for running, a M.A. in Physical Education, and served as the head cross country coach at Menlo College in 2000-02 and at College of the Redwoods 2002-03. “We are extremely grateful for the time and energy Coach Hoppe has dedicated to the men’s basketball program and excited to see him bring that same energy and enthusiasm to the cross country program,” said Dr. Mike Herbert, Director of Athletics at Southwestern. Riley Grandinetti, Associate Head Coach for men’s basketball at Southwestern for the past five seasons, will take over as head coach effective immediately. Grandinetti was recruited to play basketball for Coach Hoppe at Southwestern from 2011-13. He was the starting point guard on back-to-back NWAC Championship tournament teams. As a sophomore, Coach Grandinetti was voted First Team All-Southern Region, NWAC All-Academic Team and was also voted to play in the NWAC Sophomore All-Star Game. Coach Grandinetti received the Bill Holmes Award for Male Student-Athlete of the year at Southwestern in 2013. After his playing career at Southwestern he transferred to play at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. Grandinetti was a two-year starter for the Boxers. He earned his A.A. degree from Southwestern, his B.A. in Business from Pacific University and M.A. in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, CA. He is currently working towards another M.A in Teaching from Eastern Oregon University. Coach Grandinetti works as a Physical Education teacher at North Bend Middle School, he is the Head Golf Coach at North Bend High School, and is active in the summer directing the Southwestern basketball camp, and working with the Cascade Sports Camp in Lyons, OR. “Coach Grandinetti is an outstanding choice to lead the men’s basketball program here at Southwestern. He is a dedicated teacher and coach, a tireless worker, and a true leader. I am excited for him and believe he will do a tremendous job,” said Coach Trevor Hoppe.
