Southwestern Board Member to lead 2015-16 Oregon Community College Association Executive Board, Sept. 24

Longtime Southwestern Oregon Community College board member, Marcia Jensen will serve as the new president of the Oregon Community College Association (OCCA) Executive Board in 2015-2016. Ms. Jensen has been a Southwestern board member since 2000, serving as Chair for six of those years. In 2013 she was appointed by the executive board of OCCA to serve as Member-at-Large and also sat on OCCA’s Education Committee. The following year she was elected by the executive board to the Vice President’s position and in 2015 became the President. After her term as president she will serve one more year as Immediate Past President and Chair of the Education Committee. During her time so far serving on the OCCA board, Marcia has been instrumental in solidifying and clarifying the association’s bylaws, policies and organizational structure. One of Ms. Jensen’s goals for her tenure as president is to focus on educating the board members of Oregon’s 17 Community Colleges as to their responsibilities and the importance of their stewardship of these valued institutions. Dr. Patty Scott, President of Southwestern Oregon Community College, shared that “We are very excited and proud to have Marcia serve in this capacity. She has been an excellent steward of the College. Marcia understands the issues of rural Oregon and will move the organization along to help all students succeed.”
