Southwestern hosts Fun-Triathlon benefiting new Health & Science Technology Building, March 21

Southwestern Oregon Community College will host “Dash, Pedal, Splash” from 12 – 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2016. The fun-triathlon event is intended to raise awareness and funds for the new Health & Science Technology Building planned for the Coos campus. Community members and families are invited to join students, staff and faculty members from both Coos and Curry campuses to compete in a fun event that will include a one-mile run, two-mile bike ride, and a water obstacle course for adults 13 and up. Events for kids 12 and younger are shorter and will take place on or within view of the track. Participants may compete as individuals or in three-member teams. Adult teams must include at least one Southwestern student, and students will be on hand ready to join teams. Registration for Dash, Pedal, Splash will begin at 11 a.m. behind Prosper Hall near the track. The kids’ event will start at 12:30 p.m. and the adults at 1:00 p.m. Participation is free with a suggested donation of $30 per team. Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant will be on site with their food truck for those who wish to purchase lunch. The state of Oregon has committed $8 million toward the $16 million Health & Science Technology Building project – if our community can raise the rest. The College and the Southwestern Foundation have been challenged to raise $500,000 toward the project in the coming months to gain a 3-1 funding match from a granting organization.
