Southwestern’s Talent Search program calls for applicants, Aug. 15

SWOCC release – COOS BAY, Ore. – Talent Search, a Southwestern Oregon Community College TRiO program, is ready to help Coos and Curry County middle and high school students make their plans for life after high school. Families with students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, along with high school freshman and sophomores who are interested in attending college or technical training programs, are invited to apply for the program. Students can get free help with tutoring, career and college exploration, or to improve study skills. High schoolers also get help with the completion of college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship applications from Talent Search staff who can walk them through the complicated process. Talent Search helps students stay in school and graduate while making a solid plan for after graduation. You can participate if you attend one of the following schools: Sunset Middle School, North Bend Middle School, Millicoma Intermediate School, Marshfield High School, North Bend High School, Reedsport High School, Coquille High School, Myrtle Point High School, Powers High School, Bandon High School, Pacific High School, Brookings/Harbor High School, or Gold Beach High School. Students must be at least eleven years old and in the sixth grade, and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. Talent Search is geared toward students whose parents did not attend a four-year college and who meet certain income guidelines, but 33% of students who apply can be accepted even when they do not meet these last two conditions. Contact the Talent Search Specialist at your school or call 541-888-7223 to apply and get more information. Students can apply to TRiO throughout the year until the end of their sophomore year. Applications received by August 22, 2018 will make those students eligible for the free Talent Search jet boat trip in Gold Beach.
